A woman who struck and killed Magnus White with her car in 2023 while he was riding his bike on the Diagonal Highway has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Yeva Smilianska, 24, was found guilty of reckless vehicular homicide in April in the death of the 17-year-old from Boulder.
In a packed courtroom at the Boulder County Justice Center, District Judge Dea Lindsey handed down the sentence on Friday.
In addition to the four years in prison, Smilianska was sentenced to three years of mandatory probation.
The sentencing guidelines for the crime indicated Smilianska was facing a presumptive sentence of two to six years in prison, but this sentence was eligible for probation, according to District Attorney Michael Dougherty.
During the sentencing hearing, the prosecution requested the maximum sentence of six years in prison, the sentence recommended by the probation officers in the pre-sentence investigation, and her defense attorney asked for a community-based sentence.
Smilianska remained out of custody following the guilty verdict after posting a $100,000 personal recognizance bond.

White was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said in an arrest affidavit that “based on the totality of circumstances, it appears most likely that Smilianska was asleep at the time of the crash.”
Smilianska received two days of credit for time served already.
