Jon Jones is not unfamiliar with being stripped of a UFC title.
In fact, the UFC heavyweight champion has had his belt removed from him twice during his legendary 16-year MMA run.

Fans have urged Dana White‘s promotion to strip Jones of his status as the heavyweight champion, having only defended the belt once since winning it in March 2023.
Jones, a former king at light heavyweight, was crowned the champion at heavyweight after submitting Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, and after dealing with an injury, retained the strap by stopping Stipe Miocic in their main event bout last November.
The American was then meant to face Brit Tom Aspinall, who is the interim heavyweight champion, but has continuously avoided any conversations of making that fight happen.
It seems at this stage that White will indeed end up relieving Jones of his duties as heavyweight champion, once he has found a new opponent for Aspinall, which will most likely be Gane.
However, back in 2015, the UFC President and CEO had no choice but to strip Jones of his light heavyweight title after the latter’s suspected involvement in a car accident.
“Obviously he’s very disappointed,” White said, speaking on stripping Jones of the light heavyweight title in April of 2015.
“He’s upset. He wanted to go down as one of the greats, or the greatest ever.
“He’s disappointed, but it is what it is. It’s the decision we had to make.
“For us to go in and have to strip him of his title and suspend him is not fun, but you know what they say: The show must go on.”

Witnesses claimed that a man fitting Jones’ description ran a red light and collided with a pregnant woman’s vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot.
Police confirmed the woman suffered a broken arm after a medical examination in hospital.
Five months later, a 28-year-old Jones pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, but avoided prison time.
“I am here to accept full responsibility for what happened, for my actions,” he said in a New Mexico courtroom.
” … I’m hoping that you give me an opportunity to redeem myself.”

He was scheduled to make a ninth defence against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 in May 2015, but was unsurprisingly pulled from the bout.
‘Bones’ also lost a lucrative endorsement contract with Reebok in the aftermath, and Cormier stepped into fight Johnson, defeating ‘Rumble’ via submission in the third round.
“I can say that I’m kind of disappointed with the mistake Jon made, but he is human,” Johnson said at the time.
“I definitely wanted to fight him for the title. He’s the best. Everybody wants to fight the best, if you’re in this sport for the right reasons.”
Jones would return to the sport a year-and-a-half later to reclaim light heavyweight gold by claiming a unanimous decision win over Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197.
He then rematched Cormier and finished his American counterpart after a nasty head kick in the third round.
However, Jones had tested for a banned substance in the build-up to his rematch with Cormier and he was stripped of a UFC title for the second time.
