NFL QB Rankings: Bo Nix being disrespected, but analysts may not have watched Broncos ...Middle East

Sport by : (Mile High Sports) -

In recent NFL QB rankings, Bo Nix is being disrespected in where he lands.

But, it seems like two things are simultaneously in play here. First, the Broncos were terrible for eight years and they were a long shot to make the playoffs. So many analysts probably didn’t watch many of Denver’s games. And second, Nix was a rookie last year, so some are likely to hold off on high praise in a “wait and see” situation.

NFL QB Rankings: Bo Nix seen as worse than half the league by some

When averaging four different rankings, Bo Nix came in at 17.5. That’s worse than half the NFL’s signal callers.

Nix isn’t perfect, and he struggled mightily to begin his rookie season. But the kid finally kicked it into gear, got into a groove, and finished as a Rookie of the Year finalist. He also finished 12th in yards (3,775), sixth in touchdowns (29), 18th in rating (93.3), and sixth in sack percentage (4.06%). Nix was also eighth in rushing yards (430) while running in four scores, too.

Plus, he led the Broncos into the postseason for the first time since 2015, even with the defense being the better unit all year long.

Still, people are sleeping on Nix coming into his sophomore season.

Pro Football Focus ranked him as 19th a few weeks ago. They had guys like Kyler Murray and Trevor Lawrence ranked higher than Nix, which is somewhat laughable. In a recent post comparing Lawrence and Daniel Jones’ stats, they’re shockingly almost the same through 48 games.

Nearly identical stats in their first 48 games.

Meanwhile, Jarrett Bailey had Bo Nix ranked even lower, at 22.

Cody Benjamin, who knows ball, has Nix ranked at 15th overall. Finally, he’s into the top-half of the league. But did Benjamin watch the Broncos? He said, “Was he shielded from heavy passing workloads early on? Sure. By the end of his rookie year, though, he brought a ton of sizzle as a play-extending captain for Sean Payton’s offense.”

Actually, Nix averaged 38 passes per game in his first three contests. That’s a heavy workload. It was adjusted some after those games, but fluctuated all year long.

Finally, Henry McKenna of FOX Sports ranked Nix 14th, the highest of any preseason list. He said, “Here’s a guy who quickly learned how to eliminate bad plays. Nix is boring. But if he can stay in a good system with a good supporting cast, there’s no reason why he won’t be the next Jared Goff — and maybe even with a little more athleticism.”

Again, I’m asking if McKenna actually watched any Broncos games last year. I suspect not. Because Nix is anything but boring. He’s not a system quarterback; this is no Brock Purdy. Nix showed an escapability and the smarts to make plays with his legs. He avoided sacks and made great throws on the move, ran for nine explosive gains, and even caught a touchdown.

I also don’t think Goff is a good comp for Nix. I like Steve Young better, personally. Well, a right-handed Steve Young. Or maybe Aaron Rodgers, with a little bit less arm strength. Remember, Rodgers used to scramble a lot in his younger years.
