England vs Senegal predictions, odds and betting tips ...Middle East

England may have been victorious on Saturday, but there were few positives to take from their performance against Andorra.

Thomas Tuchel will be looking for a reaction from his players in Tuesday’s friendly.

Senegal are the Three Lions’ latest opponents. Will England come out on top with an improved display, or could this be a difficult night for the hosts?

England vs Senegal predictions

The result does not always tell the full story, and it certainly did not when England faced Andorra on Saturday.

The Three Lions were victorious, taking another step closer to securing qualification for World Cup 2026. On the face of it, this was a case of ‘job done’ for Thomas Tuchel’s team.

Yet the performance was lacking in several areas. England should be beating a team like Andorra – a European minnow currently ranked 173rd in the world by FIFA – by significantly more than a goal to nil.

Even though England’s goal was barely threatened throughout the 90 minutes, it would only have taken one moment of magic for Andorra to secure one of their greatest ever results.

Tuchel could have come out in defence of his players knowing that the fans and media would be critical. Instead, he delivered an honest assessment of what he saw.

“I was most worried in the last 20 minutes because I did not like the attitude that we ended the game with,” he said afterwards. “I didn’t like the lack of urgency and it did not match the occasion – it is still a World Cup qualifier.

“I think we lacked the seriousness and the urgency that is needed in a World Cup qualifier. I think we played with fire. I didn’t like the attitude in the end. I didn’t like the body language. It was not what the occasion needed.”

Tuesday’s match is less important in the grand scheme of things, but you would expect England’s players to want to make amends.

We could see a very different line-up against Senegal, however. Tuchel resisted the urge to experiment too much against Andorra because it was a competitive fixture. He is more likely to make some changes for this friendly.

For instance, the likes of Dean Henderson, Levi Colwill, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ivan Toney, Ebere Eze and Anthony Gordon will hope for a chance to catch the manager’s eye.

The likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham could be given the night off ahead of their participation in the Club World Cup.

Senegal’s squad contains some familiar faces for Premier League followers, with Idrissa Gueye, Iliman Ndiaye, Ismaila Sarr and Nicolas Jackson all in line to feature in some capacity on Tuesday.

However, Pape Matar Sarr is out injured and former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is unavailable due to personal reasons.

England vs Senegal betting tips

England face Senegal on Tuesday night – which way will this one go at Wembley Stadium?

England to win and both teams to score

England beat Senegal 3-0 at the last World Cup and they are strong favourites to triumph here too.

Senegal have probably gone backwards since then. Aliou Cisse, their long-serving manager, departed last year, to be replaced by Pape Thiaw.

Senegal trail DR Congo in their World Cup qualification group, while stalwarts like Mane and Kalidou Koulibaly are now past their best.

England should prove too strong for Senegal on home turf, but the Lions of Teranga do possess quality in attacking areas.

With Tuchel likely to shuffle his pack, including in defence, a clean sheet could be beyond England.

Over 2.5 goals

The World Cup is only 12 months away and there are not too many more opportunities for fringe members of the squad to show Tuchel they deserve a place in his travelling party in 2026.

Anyone who is given an opportunity to start against Senegal will be desperate to grab the chance with both hands.

Because there are no points on the line, there is no reason for either team to be cagey and risk averse.

Senegal carry a threat in transition and England boast enviable attacking depth, so goals are on the cards in this match.

Ivan Toney to score any time

A few eyebrows were raised when Tuchel selected Toney in his latest squad given the striker’s move to Saudi Arabia.

But Tuchel feels he deserves a chance and, given he did not get off the bench against Andorra, there is a good chance Toney will start on Tuesday.

Kane looks set to be rested and Ollie Watkins has been forced to withdraw from the squad, leaving Toney as the most probable pick up front.

He has been off the radar of English fans for a year, but the former Brentford striker is still a deadly finisher inside the box.

Toney can score his second goal for his country against Senegal.
