ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Champions were crowned in high school golf this afternoon in Rochester. News10NBC was on the scene to witness the event and speak with some of the winners.

The state’s best girls golfers, including those from Section V, competed at Wild Wood Country Club. Destiny Jodoin, a junior from Victor, delivered an impressive performance.
“Honestly, I don’t think there’s ever a point of comfort here. There’s always that one hole that you’re scared to get to. You don’t know what’s going to happen,” Jodoin said.
Jodoin carded a career-best 72, finishing tied for sixth.
“And then I walk off the course and I just, I just teared up because I was like, wow. Like that just happened,” said Jodoin.
Her performance helped Section V secure fourth place.
“So much pride. This section has done so much for me,” Jodoin said.
“It’s amazing because you’re playing with them all season, and then you get to come here and get to play together with them, not against them,” said Emma Sweazy, a senior from Rush-Henrietta.
Sweazy, a founding member of Rush-Henrietta’s girls golf team, received her team’s Sportsmanship Award.
“I’m just I’m so happy we got it started for girls. And now some girls from, like, Avon and HFL, they now can come,” Sweazy said.
While the girls championship at Wild Wood had trailblazers, the boys had record setters at Mill Creek.
Jackson Saroney, a senior from Jamesville-DeWitt, won the boys title with a 132, 10-under tournament.
“I kind of had a goal. I wanted to get to ten under par for two days, and I was at nine coming down 18, and I had about a 20ft putt and I was just trying to stay locked in and focused and, trying to roll that putt in and reach my goal, get the ten-under,” Saroney said.
The New York State tournaments teed off successfully in the greater Rochester area.
