Wrestling firsts don’t get more hilarious than that enjoyed by Lisa Moretti.

Moretti is, of course, known to a generation of wrestling fans as the former world champion Ivory, a star of the Attitude Era.

Ivory was a multi-time former WWE ChampionWWE

The veteran began her career over a decade prior as a performer in the now defunct GLOW organisation in Las Vegas – later the inspiration for a Netflix series – in the mid-1980s, no doubt harbouring dreams of stardom in an industry still very much dominated by men.

She toiled there wrestling on a semi-regular basis but had to wait until 1999 to make her big break on the WWE stage, initially introduced as a managerial figure for D-Lo Brown.

Ivory was soon thrust into the action as an in-ring performer and was the women’s WWE Champion by June of that year as the company slowly transitioned into an influential era for women where stars including Lita, Victora and Trish Stratus emerged.

Barring an eight-day break when she was unseated by 76-year-old veteran The Fabulous Moolah, Ivory held on to the gold for roughly six months at a time when titles changed hands at the drop of a hat.

An accomplished in-ring performer, Ivory would go on to transition into one of the best WWE character creations of the day when she joined Right To Censor in the Autumn of 2000, rallying against ‘scantily clad’ female performers and all the group saw as wrong about the product at the time.

Arguably the de facto leader of the group, she nailed the role of a stuffy do-gooder with perfection, all the way up to a landmark rivalry with legendary performer Chyna after her iconic posing for Playboy magazine.

The pair even enjoyed a high-profile brace of meetings at Royal Rumble and WrestleMania in 2001, Ivory eventually downed by the Ninth Wonder of the World at the end of what was her third title run.

Her six-year stay with WWE came to an end in 2005 but, in the wake of the deadly Hurricane Katrina, soon homed in on a new passion – helping animals, and aiding the rescue mission of creatures left devastated and displaced by the disaster.

As part of Right to Censor, Ivory went from good to bad on screenWWE

Before long, Moretti was dabbling in animal grooming and doggy daycare as her business interests began to expand, much to her delight. She told WWE in a 2009 interview: “I love my life. I am very, very, very lucky to have found a new existence that really gets me going.

“I love the animals. They’re so positive and happy every day and have a really great spin on how to live their lives and there’s a lot to learn from them.”

Having all but left Ivory behind not long after her WWE exit, Moretti was absent from the wrestling industry for the better part of the ensuing two decades, save for a deserved Hall of Fame induction in 2018.

Two years later, though, she made a remarkable comeback – and enjoyed a career first, in unforgettable style. Dusting off her old Right To Censor gear, she was a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match, performing at the age of 60 and almost four decades after her debut.

No doubt wanting to fight the good fight, just as she did in the Attitude Era, the villainous Ivory’s crusade for the cause lasted a mere seconds before she was dumped out by Rhea Ripley while trying to lecture her on the microphone.

Rarely one to miss a beat, however, the star kept up the pretence in an hilarious backstage interview, firmly staying in character as she attacked Ripley and the state of WWE in the modern day.

The villainous Right to Censor group fought against the wildness of the Attitude EraWWE Ivory was given the ultimate recognition with a spot in the WWE Hall of FameWWE Rhea Ripley brought the entertaining return to a swift conclusionWWE

“[It was] embarrassing to be in the same vicinity of those girls [who were wearing] next to nothing in front of million and millions of people.

“It’s just not like it used to be, when there was hope at the WWE.

“I think [Ripley] should think twice about what she’s doing with her life as a substantial female.

“She could be contributing to the world and have purpose in her life if she’d just open up to see new things. I could teach her; I want to help her.”

Fully appreciative of her commitment to her character, the 44,000 crowd in St Louis greeted her arena entrance warmly – a reflection on the legacy built by one of wrestling’s most inspiring female performers.
