THE retail industry is receiving yet another blow with a major chain closing down after more than a decade.
A much-loved beauty chain has announced it will officially close doors to its store on June 14, ending its 12-year run in a busy shopping complex.

Located in South Loop’s Roosevelt Collection Shops, the store has been active for over a decade but will now close.
MAJOR SALES
For now, local shoppers can cash in on the store’s final days.
As part of its closing-down sale, Ulta is offering markdowns of up to 75% on select items.
This gives beauty enthusiasts a chance to stock up on skincare, makeup, and fragrance favorites for a fraction of the price.
The South Loop closure is part of a growing trend at the Roosevelt Collection Shops.
It is followed by recent exits, including The Container Store and Kido Chicago.
These departures highlight the ongoing challenges many retail centers are facing as inflation, changing shopping habits, and economic uncertainty reshape retail.
RUNAWAY RETAIL
Ulta has not publicly detailed the specific reasons behind the closure but previously highlighted not being “immune” to economic pressures.
With increased competition from rivals like Sephora and shifting consumer habits it has struggled to maintain steady in-store traffic.
The company’s new CEO, Kecia Steelman, recently acknowledged the mounting challenges facing brick-and-mortar stores.
Factors include the rise of online shopping and same-day delivery expectations.
In a statement to The U.S. Sun, Steelman admitted that Ulta is “not immune” to the broader economic pressures impacting consumer behavior.
Recent data revealed a 7% drop in customer visits per store in the last quarter, although overall sales saw a modest lift.
Despite these setbacks, the company remains committed to future growth, with plans to open 200 new stores over the next three years.
Although Ulta is leaving this particular location, it continues to operate nine other stores across the Chicagoland area.
During an earnings call on May 30, Steelman shared that while fragrance and skincare sales have remained strong, with celebrity launches performing well, makeup sales dipped slightly and haircare stayed flat.
She emphasized that beauty remains a priority for consumers.
Many shoppers are now being more selective about how and where they spend.
“Value is an increasingly important priority as they navigate ongoing wallet pressures,” Steelman noted.
Earlier this year, the new Ulta CEO shared her plans to revive the brand.
Ulta has also revealed that many store closures will be taking place this year.
