The Florida Panthers have evened the Stanley Cup Final at one game apiece after defeating the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in double overtime of Game 2 on Friday night.
Florida looked to be in control for much of the second half of the game, netting two goals in the second period and holding steady for much of the third, but a marker from Edmonton’s Corey Perry tied things up with 18 seconds to go in regulation.
That was all undone by Brad Marchand, who scored the overtime winner on a breakaway, his second of the game, to lift the Panthers to victory and send the series back to Florida at 1-1.
Marchand also buried a short-handed breakaway with eight minutes left in the second period to give the Panthers the lead after finding themselves down 3-2 to start the frame.
Panthers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky made 42 saves to earn the victory.
Sam Bennett set an NHL record with his 12th road playoff goal when he opened the scoring two minutes into the first period. Seth Jones and Dmitry Kulikov scored the other goals for Florida.
Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner was banged up following a collision with Sam Bennett in the first period that resulted in a goalie interference penalty, but remained in the game and went on to make 37 stops.
The Oilers were 1-for-6 on the power play, with the lone goal coming on an incredible feed from Connor McDavid to Leon Draisaitl to give the Oilers a first-period lead. Evander Kane and Evan Bouchard netted the other opening-frame tallies.
Game 3 is set for Monday at 8 p.m. ET on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ as the series shifts to Florida.
