There has been a lot of anticipation over the last 48 hours after it was revealed J.K. Dobbins was set to visit with the Denver Broncos. After a dinner on Wednesday night and a facility tour on Thursday, Dobbins left the building without a deal, but that doesn’t mean he won’t remain on the team’s radar and could still sign.
Denver Broncos, J.K. Dobbins visit ends without deal
Any time a prospective player comes into a team’s building and leaves without a deal, the initial speculation suggests that a deal between both sides won’t happen. I’m not sure that’s going to be the case for J.K. Dobbins and the Broncos.

After spending time at the team facility on Thursday, Dobbins did, in fac,t leave the building without a deal, but we saw something similar occur with the Broncos and Evan Engram, who ended up signing with the team weeks later.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton discussed what the team sees in a potential prospect like Dobbins, who played in 13 games last year for their AFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers.
“Just another good football player that we’ve seen first-hand [that] I’ve seen for a while,” Payton said. “Just the importance of that position group. We really like the group right now we’re working with. It’s just another opportunity to possibly bring in another good football player to help us win.”
Payton believes the Broncos’ running back room is one of the most crucial elements to the roster, especially with a foundational offensive line in place. There’s extensive competition there, but there is no current veteran presence.
Dobbins would add veteran experience to the room, and he’d be an instant three-down back that Payton and Broncos’ GM George Paton have indicated they’re looking for. Rookie RJ Harvey could also be that option, and he’s been impressive early on throughout OTAs.
One thing to monitor here that could be a factor in Dobbins not signing on Thursday could be that Denver is still working on signing Harvey and first-round draft pick Jahdae Barron to their rookie deals, as they remain the only two players who are unsigned.
Once that happens, there’s a realistic chance Dobbins could sign.
