Netflix starts $1bn production studio on old New Jersey army base ...Middle East

News by : (GCR) -
Streaming giant Netflix has broken ground on a $1bn, 292-acre production studio located on a former US Army base in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

The facility will have production areas and 12 soundstages across 500,000-sq-ft.

It needs to pass further approvals before full construction can start. Demolition of existing structures is expected to take more than a year, and the opening is planned for 2028.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-chief executive, said: “We estimate that these studios will create thousands of jobs for New Jersey residents, billions of dollars in economic output, and many other cultural benefits to the region and state.

“Over the past four years, Netflix has contributed $125bn to the US economy and hired more than 140,000 cast and crew members."

Tammy Murphy, New Jersey’s first lady, said: “While I look forward to seeing more New Jersey landscapes grace screens around the world, I am even more excited for the economic potential this studio brings to our state.

“From thousands of good-paying jobs to new opportunities for local businesses, expanded education and more, this state-of-the-art facility will create lasting benefits.”

In 2018, Netflix bought Albuquerque Studios, which it expanded in 2020 into one of the country’s largest media production hubs.
