The Carlsbad Educational Foundation announced that its annual Gala to Benefit Students, held May 17, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, raised $300,000 to support programs throughout the Carlsbad Unified School District.
Nearly 500 attendees gathered for an evening focused on education and community impact.
One of the evening’s focal points was the premiere of Scroll or Swim, a short documentary exploring the effects of digital addiction on students. The film highlights how hands-on learning, including STEAM education and outdoor experiences, is helping students re-engage with the world around them, through projects such as building moon landers and participating in marine life tagging.
The event included an outdoor reception, dinner, and live and silent auctions, followed by a performance from The Mighty Untouchables.
Since its debut in 2022, the Gala has raised more than $1.2 million, funding over 40 programs that serve more than 11,000 TK–12 students. These include music instruction at the elementary level, STEAM and outdoor learning, and career readiness initiatives.
This year also marked the launch of CEF’s Secondary Teacher Grant Program, which awarded over $80,000 to support hands-on, innovative teaching at the middle and high school levels.
CEF CEO Laura Pitts addressed the audience, emphasizing the Foundation’s mission: “Our students deserve more than the minimum—they deserve experiences that spark curiosity, fuel passion, and unlock their potential.”
CEF acknowledged the support of presenting sponsor Gafcon and thanked all contributors, volunteers, and guests.
The next Gala to Benefit Students is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
