Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton celebrates during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals Haliburton and the Pacers stunned fans with their ECF defeat of the New York Knicks in six gamesReutersThe Pacers have certainly exceeded expectations after beating the No. 1-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks during their playoff run.
Indiana is just four wins away from claiming their first-ever NBA championship, but analysts haven’t exactly given the team a vote of confidence.
The Thunder are heavily favored over the Pacers to win the NBA Finals.
But Haliburton is confident in his group and doesn’t mind analysts doubting his team.
“As long as the guys in our locker room and the people in this building believe, then you know, anything is possible. We’re really excited about the challenge,” Haliburton said during a media
“No quote, unquote expert or analyst is going to pick us, and that’s okay.
“We like it better that way.”
The Pacers are one of the biggest underdogs in recent memory.
The Thunder have won seven games this playoffs by double digits, with four of those by at least 30 points.
And ESPN, which broadcasts the NBA Finals, asked 23 analysts to pick the winner of the Pacers-Thunder matchup, and 20 of them chose the latter team.
But that same number of ESPN analysts were wrong in picking the heavily favored Cavs to beat the Pacers in the second round of the playoffs.
The Pacers then backed up their play by knocking the New York Knicks out in six games in the ensuing series.
Oklahoma City presents the toughest challenge yet for Indiana, however.
They are led by 2024-25 MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has averaged 29.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 6.9 assists in the playoffs.
And the Thunder are coming off a dominant Western Conference Finals in which they defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.
