Hallasan has had quite a confusing career so far as he looked like a sprinter but suited the step up to 7f and 1m with good form and success in the latter at a very lucrative Guineas Trial at Meydan, scooping £65k.
He beat 110-rated Al Qudra who was the 8/15f and also owned by Godolphin to give them the 1-2.
The three-year-old went back down to 6f at Ascot in April but could only finish seventh behind Big Mojo.
Has had a bit of time off now so looks to hold plenty of potential.
That said, Diego Ventura is a strong looking favourite after his listed success at Longchamp and has all the makings of a horse still yet to show what he’s fully capable of in Britain.
The weather could play a big part this week with most of the UK getting a bit of rain it desperately needs, which also gives the racecourses a much needed water.
It also has the potential of sitting on top of very dry ground so it could suit horses that thrive on good to soft to soft.
Havana Hurricane
It’s an interesting one to see Maximized as the favourite, a clear one too ahead of the now 10/3 Havana Hurricane.
The latter of which has been hammered in from 7/1 when first available to now creeping closer to the Godolphin-owned fav.
Maximized cost £720,000 in the breeze-ups, another that cost a huge six-figure sum for the globetrotting owners but that may not translate here on just his second run.
He also ran on readily on debut ahead of the big odds-on favourite and stablemate Time To Turn.
There could well be reasons for that runner not performing as well, especially as it’s on debut and they’re still learning a lot – including the fact Time To Turn didn’t get the best of starts.
Havana Hurricane beat Logi Bear comfortably on debut and that form was franked when that horse went onto win at his third attempt.
That kind of form on just one run is great to see with little to go off of, so makes a great choice in this open Class 2 Conditions Race.
Jan Brueghel
Next up is the huge Group 1 Coronation Cup offering over a quarter of a million pounds to the winner.
Calandagan is the odds-on favourite, though could drift a touch more approaching the race.
The French raider is a talented Gleneagles gelding who despite placing second on three straight occasions is a highly rated and experienced Group 1 runner who should enjoy things here.
Those three second places have been behind the likes of City Of Troy and Anmaat, so it would be expected he can make all here.
That said, Jan Brueghel is a huge price considering he wasn’t running to his usual standard on his seasonal debut and could be back with a bang for the usual winners of Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien.
Desert Flower
She’s remained a strong favourite for a couple of days now for Charlie Appleby and William Buick to land the Classic, The Oaks on Friday afternoon.
Minnie Hauk was clear to be the pick of the bunch when drawn in stall 2 and is the favourite of the Aidan O’Brien contingent, with Ryan Moore on board now.
But the fact the closest contender is still 9/2 and potentially drifting still is a bit concerning.
It just shows how strong Desert Flower can be though, the unbeaten filly by Night Of Thunder for me looks the real deal and can stamp her authority over this new trip having been angled towards this race nicely.
Mirsky
There’s huge value to be had on the penultimate race of the day at Epsom with the Class 2 Handicap featuring 11 runners but starting from around 5/1 making it ideal to bet on each-way.
Flight Plan does appeal a lot despite being amongst the leading contenders to go off favourite.
He returned to a handicap race in May after facing plenty of strong listed and group contests but won nicely at Thirsk.
That was just his second win on the turf though and it’s hard to see him go forward after a 3lb rise.
Mirsky is still well-weighted after winning at Thirsk in a Class 3 handicap last month.
Going up just 2lb still puts him below the weight he was through most of last year so if the return to form continues with any consistency he’s got a great chance.
And with Oisin Murphy on board holds plenty of appeal.
