Two sections of I-25 near Mead to close nightly for bridge work later this month ...Saudi Arabia

Sport by : (GreeleyTribune) -

Two sections of Interstate 25 east of Mead will close overnight for a few days later this month as crews complete bridge work as part of ongoing work to expand and improve the interstate in northern Colorado.

Weld County Road 38 over I-25 will also close starting June 17 through the end of the year, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Both directions of I-25 are slated to close under Weld CR 34 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, June 15 through Tuesday, June 17. Two miles north, the interstate is set to close nightly in both directions under Weld CR 38 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, June 22 through Tuesday, June 24, CDOT said in the release.

At Weld CR 34, CDOT said crews will demolish the bridge over I-25 to reroute traffic to a new bridge that is being constructed. Work on the new bridge has shut down Weld CR 34 since May 8 and is slated to wrap up Friday, June 13.

Drivers on I-25 in both directions will be rerouted using the off- and on-ramps, but will not be able to turn onto Weld CR 34. Traffic on Weld CR 34 will be rerouted south to Colo. 66, according to CDOT.

Once Weld CR 34 reopens — anticipated on June 17 — CDOT said Weld CR 38 will close over I-25 through December while crews reconstruct that bridge. It will be built “in the same general footprint” as the current bridge in an attempt to maintain road alignment and reduce expenses, CDOT said.

On June 22, crews are set to demolish the Weld CR 38 bridge over I-25, which will close the interstate for three nights.

Southbound traffic on I-25 will be detoured west at Colo. 402 to Colo. 257, then south to Colo. 66. Northbound traffic will be detoured on temporary off- and on-ramps merging with the I-25 Frontage Road, according to the release.

CDOT said southbound traffic on that stretch to the frontage road will detour east at Weld CR 40, then use Colorado Boulevard south to Weld CR 34.

The upgrades are part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project – Mead to Berthoud, a continuation of roughly 20 miles of improvements made to I-25 between Fort Collins and Berthoud since 2018. Work on the six-mile stretch will widen and upgrade the interstate from Colo. 66 south of Mead to Colo. 56 south of Berthoud.

Once the project is finished — slated for 2028 — I-25 will have more than two lanes from Fort Collins to Denver in both directions for the first time.
