Alabama invested in its football coaching staff at a historic level during the 2024 fiscal year, according to a report.
Per findings from AL.com’s Matt Stahl, Alabama reported spending more than $47 million on its football coaching staff for that fiscal year, which ran from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. The Crimson Tide spent roughly $23 million more than the next-closest SEC program during that period.
However, Alabama’s exorbitant spending in this category is not expected to continue. Alabama’s spending spike was a result of the transition from Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer. Per the report, Alabama’s coach spend for the 2024 fiscal year included the entire 2023 season under Saban as well as the arrival of DeBoer and an assistant coaching staff made up of mostly new hires.
For the 2024 fiscal year, Georgia was second in the SEC with reported coach pay set at $23.7 million. Texas and LSU also reported coach pay north of $20 million for that period.
Stahl’s report says Alabama reported coach pay spending of $21.3 million for the 2023 fiscal year, which was more in-line with the other SEC leaders for that period. Alabama’s spending on coaches’ pay for the 2025 fiscal year is expected to revert back to normal levels.
DeBoer reportedly signed an 8-year, $87 million contract when he took over for Saban after the 2023 season.
