Three ways Musk could take down Trump – after calling his bill an ‘abomination’ ...Middle East

The billionaire tech mogul, who left his role as “Department of government efficiency” (Doge) head on Friday, unleashed a flurry of criticism on social media over the President’s tax and spending bill, which he called a “disgusting abomination”.

While Trump has urged lawmakers to approve the measure, some fiscally conservative Republican senators remain opposed.

“This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk posted on X, which he owns. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

“In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people,” he threatened.

Musk’s comments have proven to carry considerable weight in shaping public opinion, as seen during the last US election when his support helped amplify Trump’s campaign.

His most recent comments could now have the opposite effect.

Exploiting splits among Republicans

These Republicans responded with an “eyeball roll” to the posts, according to Senator Kevin Cramer, who described the reaction.

“With all due respect, my friend Elon is terribly wrong about the One Big Beautiful Bill,” House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters.

Some Republicans, like Senator Ron Johnson, even called for breaking Trump’s legislation into multiple smaller bills, arguing that a single comprehensive package with such a significant deficit increase wouldn’t secure enough votes to pass the Senate.

If passed, the bill would eliminate federal tax incentives for the production of electric vehicles (EV), batteries, and solar energy – key components of former president Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act and central to Musk’s business interests.

“I know that the EV mandate [is] very important to him. That is going away because the government should not be subsidising these things as part of the Green New Deal,” the House speaker said.

Despite facing criticism from Republican lawmakers, Musk is unlikely to curtail his public commentary and continue his social media attacks, which may further exacerbate the political challenges confronting both the Republican Party and the President.

“If the massive deficit spending continues, there will only be money for interest payments and nothing else! No social security, no medical, no defence … nothing,” Musk posted on X on Wednesday.
