We are just one week away from the third Major of the golf year, the US Open, and Rory McIlroy will be aiming to head to Oakmont with another win under his belt, as he tees up at the Canadian Open, which starts at TPC Toronto on Thursday.
McIlroy has seen his chief rival, Scottie Scheffler, win three of his last four tournaments, but with the Texan taking the week off, the recently crowned Masters champion is hot favourite for this event that was won by Robert MacIntyre 12 months ago.

Rory McIlroy to win the Canadian Open @ 9/2 Taylor Pendrith to win the Canadian Open @ 20/1 Matthias Schmid to win the Canadian Open @ 75/1Rory McIlroy to win @ 9/2
The golf world will be looking for a reaction from Rory McIlroy at TPC Toronto this week and the Northern Irishman should not disappoint.
The recently crowned Masters champion has watched Scottie Scheffler win three of his last four tournaments, but the Canadian Open is one of McIlroy’s favourites and while this week’s Ontario test will be an unfamiliar one, form figures of 1-1-9-4 must be a source of great confidence.
The wide fairways should enable McIlroy to display his unrivalled driving prowess and while he was a disappointing 47th last time out in the US PGA Championship, post-Augusta results of seventh at the Truist Championship and 12th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Shane Lowry were not a disgrace.
The motivation will be there for him to lay down a marker before next week’s Major and he should be inspired to make a bold bid for his fourth PGA Tour title of 2025.
Taylor Pendrith to win @ 20/1
Few players will have had much experience of TPC Toronto, but that is not true for Taylor Pendrith, who hails from nearby Richmond Hill.
It is two years since Nick Taylor ended a 69-year wait for a home champion at the Canadian Open, and it is not just his proximity to the course which should encourage Pendrith backers.
The 2024 CJ Cup winner was fifth at the US PGA Championship last month, which was his fourth top-10 finish of the year, and he followed that with a decent 12th spot at last week’s prestigious Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.
All the signs are there for him to make a return to the winner’s circle and there is plenty to like about his chances this week.
Matthias Schmid to win @ 75/1
Matthias Schmid has missed his last two cuts at the Canadian Open but this is a fresh test this week and the German has shown enough good form of late to suggest he can deliver a strong performance.
Schmid missed the cut at Muirfield Village last week but has performed well in the lesser PGA Tour events of late, finishing ninth at the Corales Puntacana, seventh at the Myrtle Beach Classic and second to Ben Griffin in last month’s Charles Schwab Challenge.
He is definitely heading in the right direction and may make his presence felt at a hefty price.
