Darts star Fallon Sherrock is to take a sabbatical from the sport due to ongoing health issues.

The ‘Queen of the Palace’ revealed that she will not compete in any tournament in 2026 in the hope of returning to darts with a clean bill of health.

Sherrock has played a key role in putting women’s darts on the map having become the first female to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship in 2021.

Since then, she has gone on to become the first woman to reach the last-16 of a major mixed-gender darts tournament when she made the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts in 2021.

She has since struggled to reach the same heights after the Covid-19 pandemic halted the momentum she had built.

But as her popularity grew, she revealed the devastating news that she has been struggling with kidney disease since 2014.

The 30-year-old received treatment for the condition in 2017 and revealed that due to taking multiple medications, the disease has given her a ‘moon face’.

But a recent admission from Sherrock appears to claim that her health struggles remain a huge problem whilst managing her busy darts schedule.

“All I want is to practice at home for a few hours a day – but I can’t do that,’ Sherrock told Online Darts. ‘I’ve also had to cancel a few exhibition events recently because I simply lack the stamina.

“I really wanted to play in the Women’s Week at Modus, but I wasn’t able to do the whole week of that.

“So I’ve had to narrow down what I’m playing in now, and that hurts because I love darts.

“I just have to find myself again. I have to get healthy again – and once I’ve done that, anything is possible.

“That’s why I’ve had to severely limit the tournaments I participate in – and that hurts because I love darts.

“I just hope that I’ll be fit again in a year or two and come back really well.

“My main objective this year is obviously the Worlds. But I want to try and get to the Grand Slam this year, because I feel like if I am going to have a year out next year, I want to make a bang.

“I’m going to try and get to everything, then even if I’m not playing to my 100%, at least I can say that I made it.

“I just need to sort myself out. I need to get myself well again and then once I do, the sky is the limit because I know I can do it and I know how many hours I’ve got to put in, what standard I’ve got to play. So I can do it, I just need the energy for it first.”

Sherrock lifted the lid on her health problems before December’s World Championship where she was beaten in the first round by Ryan Meikle.

Sherrock is in a relationship with fellow darts player Cameron MenziesRex

She said: “This year I feel like there is hardly any pressure on me at all. There are other players in the field who have got the media attention and stuff, so I can go under the radar. I have been poorly.

“I haven’t publicised it as such. Only a few people close to me actually know about it, but I am on the mend now and hopefully getting my confidence back.”

Sherrock and her professional darts player boyfriend Cameron Menzies both fell at the first hurdle at the World Championships.
