ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) has officially been updated for the 2025 season.
The initial rankings for 2025 feature an all-SEC top-3 followed by several contenders from the Big Ten. The SEC and Big Ten occupy 8 of the top 10 slots to begin the year, with Notre Dame and Miami being the lone inclusions from outside of those 2 top leagues.
A staggering 13 SEC teams are included in the top-25 of FPI’s preseason rankings. That means over half of the nation’s top 25 teams come from the SEC, per the model. The Big Ten is second with 6 teams included in the top-25. The ACC has 3 who made the cut while the Big 12 has just 2.

In addition to being ranked No. 1, Texas has the best odds to with the National Championship according to FPI at 24.1%. The model even gives the Longhorns an 8.9% chance of going undefeated this season — the highest of any team in the country despite an SEC schedule. The Longhorns also have an 83.9% chance to make the College Football Playoff, per FPI.
As for SEC Championship odds, Texas leads the way with a 34.1% chance to win the conference title. Georgia is not far behind, though, at 26.9%. Alabama, at 17.2%, is the only other SEC program with better than a 5% chance to win the SEC Championship Game, per FPI.
