Jonathan Joss, the voice actor for John Redcorn in "King of the Hill," died in a shooting at age 59

Jonathan Joss, famous for his portrayal of John Redcorn in the animated series "King of the Hill," has tragically passed away at the age of 59 due to a shooting incident. His character was notable for act for cultural complexities within a predominantly white American setting, often addressing themes of identity and representation . San Antonio police confirmed to varity  that the 59-year-old died on Saturday after an incident. Officers were reportedly dispatched while the shooting was in process and found him near the road. After an attempt to revive him, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The shooter, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has been detained and TMZ is reporting that it was the result of “a heated argument” with a neighbour.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Joss’s husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales wrote that he was “murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other”. He added: “Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get … I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved.”

San Antonio police said in a statement: “Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that the Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation.”

The statement added: “SAPD investigators handle these allegations very seriously and have thoroughly reviewed all available information. Should any new evidence come to light, the suspect will be charged accordingly,” 

Authorities arrested Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 56, and charged him with first-degree murder, according to county records. TMZ reported that Joss and his neighbor had experienced “both verbal and physical fights in the past” and “tensions between the two men had been building for years.”

Joss was the voice of John Redcorn in the Fox animated series from seasons 2 through 13. John Redcorn was a “New Age healer” and masseur, who was always addressed by his full name or "Mr. Redcorn."
