News by : (The U.S. Sun) -

WALMART shoppers have been left shocked at the rapid price surge of a toy from $20 to $55 – and it’s been dubbed “pretty terrifying.”

This is not the first instance of shoppers being shocked at price rises recently, as Donald Trump‘s tariffs seem to be taking hold.

The US economy is not in a good place right now, and it seems like the consumer is the one feeling that the most.

With the President’s tariff plan starting to see higher prices across a number of sectors and retailers, stories like this are becoming more common.

In May, The US Sun reported on a Target product that was given an $8 seemingly overnight.

A Target worker shared the price of a f a USB-C cord from the store’s in-house Heyday brand.

It had shot up from $9.99 to $17.99 in the blink of an eye, an 80% markup for shoppers to have to pay.

It led one shopper on Reddit to admit: “I’m kinda scared to do back to school shopping in July and August.”

At the same time, Trump is also threatening tariffs on big businesses, namely Apple and Tim Cook.

The US Sun reported that iPhones could be increased by as much as $250 if the company doesn’t move production to the US.

It comes as Trump tries to get manufacturing in the US.

This is despite experts labelling the notion of Apple making iPhones in America as a “fictional tale.”

WALMART WORRY

Now, another instance of real life price rises has sent shivers down the spines of Walmart shoppers.

On Reddit, one customer shared that the price of a T-Rex toy increased from $20 to $55 from April 19 to May 21.

Over the span of just over a month, the toy increased a staggering 175% in price.

What items will be affected by the tariffs?

AMERICANS should prepare to see significant prices changes on everything from avocados to cars under President Donald Trump's new global tariffs.

Here is a list of some of the everyday products that could see a massive price tag surge.

Coffee Tea Bananas Foreign-made cars Sneakers Furniture and other home goods Pharmaceuticals Video games Clothing Toys Washers and dryers Avocados Housing materials

In the comments section of the post, customers couldn’t help but freak out, and wondering what this means for bigger necessities.

One person wrote: “This is actually pretty terrifying. I don’t care about toys of course but jfc I can’t imagine what the price of food and necessities are going to be like soon, especially with most of us only making $14 and already struggling like hell.”

Meanwhile, another added: “What scares me is that Walmart is truly paying more for the products- I am watching our costs rise and products going up to cover us while its kicking everyone’s a**…consumers & companies.

“This will kill all businesses, big and small.”

However, some think that this is Walmart‘s doing and not a direct result of the tariffs.

A contradictory comment said: “Love how people are only figuring it out now after the 2nd price jump “due to tariffs” they increased prices in response to the tariff announcements, and now they’re doing it again.

“This is going to be just like Covid too. Those prices aren’t going back to what they were even if the tariffs are removed.”

It is important to note that this Reddit user is merely theorizing, and therefore is not to be taken at face value.

John Rainey, Walmart’s chief financial officer also thinks consumers will begin to see higher prices in the coming months.

He said: “We’re wired for everyday low prices, but the magnitude of these increases is more than any retailer can absorb.

“It’s more than any supplier can absorb.

“And so I’m concerned that consumer is going to start seeing higher prices.

“You’ll begin to see that, likely towards the tail end of this month, and then certainly much more in June.”
