The Knoxville Regional is not over yet. Wake Forest has forced a Monday winner-take-all rematch with Tennessee for a spot in Super Regionals.
Even though Tennessee is hosting the regional, a quirk of the NCAA Tournament rules had Wake Forest as the home team on Sunday night. The Demon Deacons got the last at-bat and took advantage.
It was a 6-6 ball game through 8.5 innings. Nate Snead entered the game in the bottom of the 7th for Tennessee and had not allowed a run in 1.1 innings of work. In the 9th, however, things changed.
It all started with a leadoff walk. Marek Houston then singled up the middle. Kade Lewis bunted, but the Volunteers did not have a play, loading the bases. Jack Winnay then drew a 4-pitch walk, bringing the winning run home to deliver a 7-6 win for the Deacs.
