LOS ANGELES — Firefighters knocked down a brush fire that burned slowly near a vegetation-covered tunnel over the Pasadena (110) Freeway near Dodger Stadium on Saturday.

The fire was reported at 5:40 p.m. on the northbound side of the Pasadena Freeway near the first tunnel off Bishops Road, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

LAFD Air Ops units dropped water onto the fire while firefighters were digging hand lines, Stewart said.

At 6:51 p.m., the LAFD reported it had stopped the fire’s forward progress and held the fire to about two acres. Firefighters planned to remain on the scene for about two hours to make sure there were not hot spots.

The northbound Pasadena Freeway was shut down from south of the tunnel to the transition to the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway and the transition road was closed, according to the California Highway Patrol. The southbound lanes were shut down from the Santa Ana Freeway through Stadium Way.
