Gujarat Titans review (8.5/10): Sai Sudharsan stands out in IPL season with choked finish ...Middle East

Sport by : (Inside sport) -

Gujarat Titans were arguably one of the best teams in IPL 2025. Despite playing 90% of the tournament well, Shubman Gill and co. choked when it mattered the most, costing them their 2nd title. GT, as a team, had more positives to talk about than negatives. However, a series of bad games towards the end followed by a loss to MI in the Eliminator put a rather blunt end to their campaign.

The best part about GT in IPL 2025 has to be Sai Sudharsan. The Tamil Nadu batter has shown what being consistent means and has finished the season as the Ornage Cap holder with 759 runs to his name. His fellow TN teammate Sai Kishore was yet another positive, turning out to be a bigger wicket-taker than veteran Rashid Khan. Captain Gill and Buttler had a great season too. Well, it was a not so great season for Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar and Rashid among others.

Gujarat Titans review (8.5/10)

GT had the best top-three batters in IPL 2025 without any doubt. Sudharsan, Gill and Buttler – all three who went on to score more than 500 runs in this season, scored more than 70% of the runs for GT. In fact, it is this very big positive which also turned into a negative for them – over reliance on the top three.

With the ball, it was Sai Kishore and Prasidh Krishna who were leading from the front. However, after going on good winning streak in the first half of the tournament, Gill and co. started faltering in the latter part of the season. What could have been a top two finish turned out to be a third-placed finish with GT losing their last four games. As a result, they had to win the Eliminator to fancy a chance of making it to the final. However, that was not to be as MI reigned supreme.

Highs:

Sai Sudharsan – the most consistent batter and a sure shot sustainable opening option Best top three batters in IPL 2025, hands down Sherfane Rutherford aces role of finisher Prasidh Krishna, the spearhead of GT’s pace attack Sai Kishore surpasses Rashid Khan to become GT’s best spinner this season

Lows:

Rashid Khan fails to fire Siraj started on a fiery note but finished as one of the most expensive bowlers Underutilisation of Washington Sundar Lack of chances given to Mahipal Lomror

What next for GT in IPL 2026?

Overall, GT don’t need to worry a lot for the next season as they have a well-balanced side. What Gill and co. may need to do is figure out their middle-order and start giving more chances to someone like Sundar instead of giving repeated opportunities to a player like Rahul Tewatia.
