The heat will break the May gray in parts of San Diego County Friday.
Highs are expected to spike, with temperatures of up to 15 degrees above average in some parts of the region.
Escondido and Ramona will be among the communities facing the steepest rise, with an outside chance of temps reaching 95 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
After early patchy fog clears along the coast, highs of 72 to 75 are expected Friday, then heading inland, highs increase to between 79 and 82 degrees.
In the western valleys, highs are expected to reach 83 to 86 degrees and in the foothills, from 89 to 94.
The heat, though, is set to give way to a chance of showers starting late Saturday and extending into Sunday. Showers are most likely in the mountains, including Julian, forecasters said.
The mornings will be mostly cloudy and clear up only slightly by the afternoon Saturday and Sunday.
Coastal highs for the weekend are expected to range from 71 to 74, and inland from 75 to 78. In the valleys, temperatures will range from 79 to 84 degrees and in the foothills, from 85 to 90.
