The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans can breathe a sigh of relief. After years of desperation, RCB have finally qualified for the IPL finals for the first time since 2016. The Rajat Patidar-led side completely outplayed the Punjab Kings (PBKS), who got all out for a mere 101-run score. RCB chased it down with eight wickets in hand and thumped their way in the summit clash. Meanwhile, today’s IPL 2025 match will see Gujarat Titans (GT) battle against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Eliminator clash at the very same ground. However, there might be injury concerns for MI. Also, did Prithvi Shaw almost join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2025? Find out this and more below.
LSG wanted Prithvi Shaw?
So, it turns out LSG’s head coach Justin Langer was really keen on getting Prithvi Shaw in the IPL 2025 auction. Apparently, they were close to signing him, but the deal fell through at the last minute. Shaw ended up going unsold, while LSG spent ₹4 crore on retaining Ayush Badoni (not at the auction, btw). LSG’s strategy focused on overseas batters, but they lacked Indian openers. Shaw would’ve been a great fit, despite his fitness and discipline issues. Now, it’s all speculation about what could’ve been if LSG had managed to snag him. Read more here.
Injury concerns for MI before Eliminator?
Mumbai Indians (MI) might be in trouble ahead of their Eliminator clash against Gujarat Titans. Reports suggest that Deepak Chahar and Tilak Varma might be injured, with a viral video showing them limping at the airport. Varma has been inconsistent this season, scoring 274 runs in 14 matches, while Chahar has taken 11 wickets and been crucial in MI’s pace attack. Chahar has a history of injuries, and Varma had previously hurt his knee and hand. The injuries could be a double blow for MI as they face GT on May 30 in Mullanpur. Read more here.
Gautam Gambhir on Iyer’s snub
Shreyas Iyer had a stellar year, leading KKR to an IPL title and Punjab Kings to the top of the table, while also contributing to India’s ICC Champions Trophy win. However, despite his impressive performance, he’s been left out of India’s Test squad for the England series. When asked about Iyer’s exclusion, Gautam Gambhir deflected the question, stating he’s not a selector and the decision lies with them. His absence could be felt in the high-profile England tour. Jadeja eyes India captaincy?
Ravindra Jadeja has openly expressed his desire to captain the Indian Test team, calling it a moment of pride. Despite Shubman Gill being named Rohit Sharma’s successor, Jadeja remains hopeful. With 60 Tests under his belt, he’s a key player and would be a natural fit for the role. Although Rishabh Pant was named vice-captain, Jadeja doesn’t seem to hold any grudges, believing captaincy can be learned over time. Jadeja has never captained India in Tests, with his most notable captaincy stint being a short-lived one with CSK in 2022. Read more here.
