A stretch of O Street between North 23rd Avenue and North 25th Avenue will close for approximately two months starting June 9 while the city completes work aimed at improving water service and fire protection in the area.
Crews will install roughly 2,000 feet of 16-inch of PVC pipe — connecting to existing pipes at both ends — as well as a hydrant and two air-release vacuum valves, according to a city news release. The city said the valves are designed to regulate airflow in the pipes to maintain water flow and minimize damage to the pipes.
The stretch of road will reopen from June 27 until July 7 to accommodate traffic to and from the Greeley Stampede, according to the release.
Weld County Road 37 will be closed at the onset of the project, but will reopen to eastbound traffic at O Street from July 7-24. The city asks drivers who typically use O Street between 11th and 35th Avenue to detour north to AA Street or south to 4th Street.
Routes to Platte Valley Youth Services and the Weld County Jail will still be maintained from O Street to allow law enforcement access, the city said.
“While traffic changes can be inconvenient, these projects are important to ensure Greeley’s water system is strong and dependable,” the city said in the release.
The Denver branch of Indiana-based Reynolds Construction will complete the work.
