A Fort Collins man was arrested Monday by Pueblo deputies on suspicion of carjacking and kidnapping an Aurora woman, according to sheriff’s officials.
Shane McSwane, 28, led law enforcement on a nearly 30-mile chase along Interstate 25 that ended when Pueblo County deputies hit the car, forcing it to spin out and stop, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
McSwane was arrested on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping, aggravated robbery, unlawful sexual contact, second-degree motor vehicle theft, felony menacing with a deadly weapon, vehicular eluding, reckless driving and driving under restraint, according to the release.
Pueblo deputies were responding to a reported robbery at a gas station in Colorado City when they learned the suspect had left the store in a gray 2020 Ford Escape, the release stated. At the same time, the carjacking victim’s mother called police to report that her daughter had been kidnapped and her phone was pinging near the gas station.
The daughter’s car matched the description of the one involved in the robbery, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s officials said the daughter had stopped near Interstate 225 and Interstate 70 in Aurora at about 11 p.m. Sunday for a crash when McSwane forced his way into her car.
He drove the woman against her will for nearly four hours, made repeated sexual comments, touched her inappropriately and forced her to touch him, sheriff’s officials said in the release.
A deputy patrolling I-25 saw the Ford Escape traveling northbound on the interstate near Pueblo Boulevard early Monday morning and tried to pull the car over, but McSwane fled, according to the release.
