Berhampur: Gangster Ratikanta Senapati was arrested in connection with two cases involving extortion, threats, and illegal interference in property disputes in Berhampur.
Senapati, alias Julee, a 45-year-old resident of Bhaapur Bazar Akula Street, Berhampur, was arrested by Town Police on Tuesday.
The cases, registered at Badabazar and Berhampur Town Police Stations, highlight Senapati’s alleged role in intimidating complainants and unlawfully demanding large sums of money.
A Kiran Kumar (54) of Badabazar, lodged a complaint stating that Senapati, along with 10-15 associates, threatened him over a family property dispute involving a house in Badabazar. Kumar alleged that Senapati and his group abused him, demanded he vacate the property, and threatened dire consequences. On multiple occasions, Senapati allegedly offered Rs. 5,00,000 to coerce Kumar into leaving the house.
In another case, P. Raja Pravakar Rao(65), owner of Raj Kamal Agency on Urban Bank Road, reported Senapati’s interference in a long-standing civil dispute with house owner E. Dwarikanath. Rao alleged that on May 17, 2025, Senapati and his accomplices assisted Dwarikanath in removing stock, including AC machines and furniture, from the disputed shop. When confronted, Senapati and his associates allegedly abused Rao and demanded Rs. 30,00,000.
Berhampur SP Dr Saravana Vivek M said that police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend other involved individuals.
