The network has gone with a reliable show to answer that question.
It was reported by Front Office Sports that an ESPN spokesperson told the outlet that the network will go with a half-hour of SportsCenter, which will be primarily hosted by Matt Barrie and Christine Williamson.
The duo will also continue to host the 2:00 pm edition of SportsCenter.
FOS noted that “plans are fluid as far as how long SportsCenter will air in the 5:00 time slot, but it will be at least several months before ESPN develops a new concept.”
Barrie has been with ESPN since 2013 and is known for hosting SportsCenter.
He’s also been a studio and in-game commentator for the network’s coverage of college football and works as a play-by-play man for TGL golf.
Barrie signed a contract extension with ESPN in March.
As for Williamson, she joined ESPN in 2019.
Williamson’s been a SportsCenter anchor and also hosts numerous shows on the network’s digital platforms, including SC on Snap and Countdown to GameDay.
She’s a backup First Take host to Molly Qerim.
And Williamson has appeared as a panelist on Around the Horn.
Social media users reacted to ESPN’s reported replacement of the iconic sports debate show that was hosted by Tony Reali.
“Smart move,” one wrote.
“How exciting,” another commented.
