CAIRO, May 25 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed that the African agenda tops Egypt’s foreign policy priorities, saying Egypt is very proud of belonging to the African continent.
He reiterated Egypt’s keenness on pushing forward regional development and integration in a way that materializes the aspirations of African peoples.
Addressing a ceremony organized by the Foreign Ministry late on Saturday on the occasion of Africa Day, the top diplomat expounded the role played by Egypt under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi who is currently the head of the Steering Committee of the Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) to serve the African continent.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty lauded Sisi’s leadership of the African Union’s post-conflict reconstruction and development file and Egypt’s hosting of the center tasked with putting into effect the AU policy in this regard.
The ceremony was attended by Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi, Labor Minister Mohamed Gobran, and a number of former foreign ministers including Amr Moussa, Mohamed el Arabi and Sameh Shoukry.
Abdelatty reviewed the programs carried out by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding in boosting security and stability across the African continent.
He underlined the importance of rallying efforts to back Somalia through enhancing potentials of its national institutions and enabling the African mission there to fulfil its task.
He also reiterated Egypt’s support of Sudan, underlining the importance of respecting the unity and the territorial integrity of the African nation.
As for Egypt’s economic and investment support for Africa, the top diplomat praised the good reputation Egyptian companies enjoy in the continent, especially in the construction, electricity, renewable energy, infrastructure, and agricultural investment domains.
He said Egyptian companies have the potentials that qualify them to implement major development projects in various African nations.
The minister welcomed the growing number of continental initiatives aiming at fostering economic integration, saying such initiatives manifest a real political will to achieve peace, security, and sustainable development in Africa. (MENA)
