PBKS’ hard-hitting batter Shashank Singh appeared to have cleared the boundary off Mohit Sharma’s bowling with a pull shot. Nair tried to catch it at the long-on boundary but couldn’t hold onto it and attempted to flick it inside the ropes. Believing his foot might have touched the rope, the play was reviewed by the third umpire. The decision drew criticism from fans and experts, especially with replays appearing inconclusive and Nair himself gesturing for a six.
Preity Zinta slams third umpires
Following Punjab’s six-wicket loss, co-owner Preity Zinta took to social media to express her displeasure, stating that such errors are unacceptable in a tournament with advanced technology. She revealed she had spoken to Karun Nair post-match, and he confirmed the ball had indeed crossed the boundary.
“In a such a high profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire’s disposal such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke to Karun Nair after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6! I rest my case and this camera angel leaves no further doubt!” Zinta posted on X.

The defeat has serious implications for Punjab Kings’ playoff positioning. Their hopes of finishing in the top two now rest not only on a must-win result against the Mumbai Indians in their final game but also on other outcomes—RCB and Gujarat Titans need to falter for PBKS to qualify for Qualifier 1.
In the match, PBKS posted 206/8 with Shreyas Iyer (53) and Marcus Stoinis (44 off 17) leading the charge. However, DC chased it down in 19.3 overs, led by Sameer Rizvi’s 58* off 25 and a supporting 44-run knock from Karun Nair.
