Tornadoes reported in northeast Colorado amid storms Friday ...Middle East

DENVER (KDVR) -- Multiple tornadoes touched down in northeastern Colorado on Friday evening.

The National Weather Service said that weather spotters confirmed that a tornado near Merino touched down shortly after 5 p.m. The agency said there were multiple reports of tornadoes as the storm moved through the area around Akron within the hour.

Tornado warnings were issued in the area. The NWS said damage to trees was likely, and flying debris could be dangerous for people outside.

For people in areas where a tornado warning was issued, the NWS recommends moving to an inside room or the lowest floor of a building and staying away from windows. People who are outdoors, in a vehicle or in a mobile home should find the nearest substantial shelter to protect themselves from flying debris.

Several storm warnings have been issued in the area to warn residents of large hail and strong winds.

The National Weather Service out of Boulder issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for several areas through 9 p.m. on Friday.

Pinpoint Weather Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser said lightning, wind and hail will be the main concerns of the storm. He said the storms may begin to clear after 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Denver and Front Range areas can expect some passing clouds Friday evening.

More storms are expected through Memorial Day weekend. Be sure to stay updated on the forecast before taking part in outdoor activities this weekend, as the weather is subject to change.
