The 2025 High School Owls Soccer season has come to a close. The District Tournament saw Smith County beat York and Monterey beat Jackson County. The Championship game was between Smith County and Monterey. It was a hard fought, physical game that ended with Monterey winning 2-1. The Smith County Goal was scored by Adyn Elliott with an assist from Gavin Petersen. This was Monterey’s first season and first District Championship. Smith County took District 5A Runner up. The Owls also brought home some individual district honors; District First Team included Owls Adyn Elliott, Geraldo Olvera and Aldrin Jimenez. District Second Team included Owls Michael Martin and Zane Felice. Other District awards for Smith County was Defender of the Year, Terence Davis and Midfielder of the Year Jarrain Smith.
Smith County earned a spot in the Regional Semi Finals vs Liberty Creek. The game was played at Liberty Creek and started off with the Owls scoring first just two minutes into play by Zane Felice, assisted by Adyn Elliott. The wolves would soon answer a few minutes later. At 31 minutes Smith County would come back and make it 2-1 with a goal by Adyn Elliott. Halftime was Liberty Creek 4, Smith County 2. The second half the wolves would score four more times and Smith County lost 8-2, ending the season.
The Owls had their end of season banquet on May 21st. The 9 Seniors were honored with their banners and their jerseys. James Bunn, Tatum Poindexter, Michael Martin, Jarrain Smith, Adyn Elliott, Terence Davis, Cruz Martinez, Geraldo Olvera, Aldrin Martinez, you each will be extremely missed. The team awards that were handed out at the banquet were as follows: SCP Award – Michael Martin, Most Improved – Caleb White and Gavin Petersen, Big Owl Award – Geraldo Olvera, Hustle Award – Cruz Martinez, Goalie of the Year – James Bunn, Offensive Player of the Year – Aldrin Jimenez, Midfielder of the Year – Tatum Poindexter and Jarrain Smith, Defensive Player of the Year – Terence Davis, Rookie of the Year – Zane Felice, and MVP – Adyn Elliott. Congratulations to each member of the team!
