A CAR dealership has drawn in buyers from across the world with the launch of a new and innovative way drivers can pay for vehicles.

The Porsche, BMW and Audi dealership in Fresno, California is just one of a handful of dealerships in the state offering this service.

Owned by former Texas Ranger and Los Angeles Angel pitcher C.J. Wilson, the dealership is now offering customers the chance to buy their vehicles using Bitcoin.

Buying with Bitcoin has already proven surprisingly popular, with hordes of people from across the US and world jumping at the opportunity to trade with the virtual cash.

C.J. told ABC: “We’ve sold cars to people living in Maine, Florida and Hong Kong.

“We do maybe one transaction actually like that a month or every other month.”

The former pitcher even sold a Lamborghini for the cryptocurrency.

In addition to attracting high-flying customers, the option to buy in bitcoin has also drawn in a number of young buyers.

“It’s really not that much different than Zelle or PayPal,” said C.J.

But where some people have jumped at the opportunity, others have been less enthusiastic.

C.J. reckons there are fewer than 10 auto dealerships in California processing payments in Bitcoin.

But that shouldn’t stop people from trading with the currency, he added.

“It’s really mainstream now. It’s up to everyone else now to catch up,” he said.

This comes as The Waynesboro Jeep-Chrysler shop in Georgia suddenly shut its doors after several customers claimed that the dealership was using a trade-in trick to boost profits.

Drivers who purchased vehicles from the shop accused it of taking trade-ins without making sure the cars were actually paid off.

Typically, when drivers offer dealerships a trade in, they are expected to pay off any outstanding liens on the vehicle.

If they fail to do this and do not inform the person buying the vehicle, the new owner is left in the dark that a bank or lender still has a legal claim over the motor.

Such allegations sparked a serious investigation involving the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

It said in a statement: “The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is concluding a significant investigation involving the Waynesboro Jeep-Chrysler Dealership, which faced allegations of accepting trade-in vehicles without satisfying existing liens.

“After receiving the initial report, CID investigators promptly launched a thorough investigation, conducting interviews and executing search warrants to uncover the full scope of the situation.”

“As a result of their efforts, seven individuals and eight vehicles were identified as being impacted by the dealership’s practices,” it added.

Now only one civil complaint remains outstanding after the other customers received restitution from the auto shop.

Major Ben Harman from the Sheriff’s Office praised the work of Lieutenant Heather Sims who led the investigation, commending her swift work to resolve the case.
