Since returning to his boyhood club last summer, Coutinho has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 41 appearances.

However, the club have had to deal with increased violent incidents in the area surrounding their training ground.

According to Brazilian TV channel Globo, staff have regularly described hearing gunshots and helicopters due to police operations.

Vasco opened their Moacyr Barbosa training ground in the Cidade de Deus region of Rio de Janeiro back in 2020.

The area has seen a high number of violent incidents in recent years, with the latest coming during the club’s media day.

Coutinho had been speaking to reporters from Globo alongside team-mates Leo Jardim and Nuno Moreira.

His interview was twice stopped after gunfire could be heard in the distance.

The 32-year-old appeared unfazed by the sounds, though, despite initially pausing.

Footage of the interview shows Coutinho turning and grinning before making a joke to Jardim and Moreira.

The pair were also seen laughing in response as they remained calm following the apparent gunshots.

Despite the reports of gunfire in the surrounding area, Vasco have invested heavily in their training base.

The facilities currently include a swimming pool and hot tub to help players with their recovery from injuries.

Meanwhile, the club intend to install an office for the president, a large meeting room and an area specifically for coaching staff.

On the pitch, Vasco currently sit 13th in the table after nine matches this season.

It follows a 3-0 home win against Fortaleza on Saturday which saw Coutinho sent off.

His 68th minute dismissal was the first straight red card of his senior career.

Coutinho is currently set to return to Villa at the end of June once his loan expires.

He then has another year remaining on his deal at Villa Park, despite not featuring for the club since August 2023.
