Temperatures are on the rise across the San Diego region, peaking today with highs between 10 to 15 degrees above normal before gradually falling back to more normal averages, forecasters said.

The quickly building temperatures will bring some heat risk to San Diego County’s inland areas, according to the National Weather Service’s San Diego office.

San Diego valleys will likely see some heat risks through Friday; in the deserts, temperatures are expected to top 100 degrees. Coastal areas will see temperatures in the 80s.

A cooling trend is expected to begin Friday and continue into the Memorial Day weekend, with the most significant drop occurring Saturday, returning temperatures to “a few degrees either side of normal,” followed by a few degrees of warming on Sunday.

“High temperatures will cool from around 10 degrees above average today to within a few degrees of average on Saturday,” forecasters said on a discussion page. “Sunday will be around 5 degrees warmer, then gradual cooling to around average for next Wednesday.”

Forecasters urged people planning outdoor activities on Thursday to “take precautions to avoid heat-related dangers.”
