Red Shoe Day raised at least $170,000 Wednesday morning to benefit San Diego’s 57-room Ronald McDonald House.
For the 16th consecutive year, 800 volunteers stood at 80 intersections across San Diego County for more than two hours collecting donations in the fundraiser’s signature big red shoes. It’s the largest community-driven fundraiser for the charity, which supports families of ailing children.
“In 2024, our House served as a home away from home for more than 1,300 family members and a safe, welcoming space for more than 50,000 day visitors to rest, eat and tend to their basic needs before returning to care for their hospitalized child,” Chuck Day, president and CEO of the local Ronald McDonald House, said in a news release. “As the number of families that rely on our services continues to grow, the generosity of San Diegans on Red Shoe Day allows us to support these families when they need it most.”
The house’s services are provided at no cost to families.
In addition to donating at intersections, online or via Venmo, San Diegans are now able to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego year-round by rounding up to the nearest dollar when they make a purchase at any San Diego County McDonald’s.
