NEW ‘low-profile’ police cars are on the lookout for Americans who treat driving like a video game.

The latest patrol cars hope to catch drivers who aggressively weave in and out of lanes while driving triple-digit speeds.

“The new vehicles give our officers an important advantage,” California Highway Patrol Commissioner Sean Duryee wrote in a press release.

“They will allow us to identify and stop drivers who are putting others at risk, while still showing a professional and visible presence once enforcement action is needed.”

In California, 390,000 accidents occurred, with 250,000 causing injuries to those involved, Kar Law reported.

Of the 390,000 accidents, about 50,000 of them are speeding-related.

In total, the car accidents have been responsible for about 3,700 deaths every year.

To help lower the accident rate, the highway patrol will introduce 100 new Dodge Durangos to its patrol car lineup.

“These cars aren’t meant to prey on normal and unsuspecting people,” CHP Officer Alec Pereyda told The Register.

“These are meant for those speeding and aggressive drivers.”

Currently, the highway patrol uses Dodge Chargers and Ford Explorers.

The new cars will blend into traffic to observe the most reckless and dangerous behaviors without being immediately detected.

The latest SUVs come in black and shades of gray with “Highway Patrol” written on the side.

The lights are on the inside of the car and the front bumper.

Last year, the CHP issued around 18,000 citations to drivers speeding over 100 miles an hour.

The CHP reported that speeding accounts for 30% of all crashes and is a significant contributor to traffic fatalities.

Speeding decreases reaction times, extends stopping distance, and intensifies the severity of the crash.

“Our goal remains the same: reduce injuries, prevent fatalities, and restore a sense of safety on California’s roadways,” the CHP wrote in a press release.

CHP statement on the new vehicles

CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said:

The new vehicles give our officers an important advantage. They will allow us to identify and stop drivers who are putting others atrisk, while still showing a professional and visible presence once enforcement actionis needed.

“We urge all drivers to obey speed limits, avoid aggressive behavior, and share the road responsibly.”

The highway patrol will put the first 25 vehicles in various regions across the state.

The whole fleet of cars will be “strategically placed” across California by June.

“Speed isn’t a thrill—it’s a threat,” the release concluded.

“And the CHP is responding.

“The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.”
