Boardman 10, Geneva 0 (5 inn.) — In a district semifinal, the Spartans only needed a little over an hour to advance in the tournament. They scored three runs in the first inning and six more in the third to take control. Tori Strines had a perfect game going through three innings. The Spartans will see a familiar face in All-American Conference foe Howland for the district crown on Thursday in Hubbard.

Northeast 6

Canfield 9, Westlake 2 — In a district semifinal, Canfield got the lead in the first inning and continued to add to it. The Cardinals scored in every inning of the win. Camryn Hrina pitched five innings, giving up one earned run to earn the win. Caylee Ortiz came in for relief and gave up one hit and struck out four in the final two innings. Sydney Lutz singled and doubled with three RBIs, Jenna Havrilla singled and tripled and Marina Koenig and Alexis Johnson each had two hits. The Cardinals will face Aurora in the district final at North Royalton on Thursday.

Northeast 1

Lakeview 11, Crestwood 1 (6 inn.) — In a district semifinal, Ava Bacon struck out 12 and allowed only two hits, four walks and one run in a complete game for the Bulldogs. Kalyssa Werner singled twice and tripled with three RBIs and two runs scored and Kennedy Bartlett singled twice with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored to power the Lakeview lineup. Linnea Kovac singled with two RBIs, and Isabella Isenberg, Hallie Capan, Annaliese DeJulio, Ella Collins and Rylee Barnot each had two hits, including doubles by Mackenzie Stowe, Isenberg and Capan. Lakeview will play Marlington/Akron Springfield in the district title on Thursday at Canfield.

West Geauga 10, Salem 3 — Stats were not reported.

Northeast 4

West Branch 5, Ravenna 1 — In a district semifinal, the Warriors punched their ticket to the district championship after Addi Craven hit a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Libbie Davis and Craven each collected two hits for West Branch. Zoe Metzger, Davis, Craven, Camryn Wike and Carly Loper each drove in one run. Klary McKay earned the win in relief. She allowed two walks and struck out seven in 3 2/3 innings of hitless work. The Warriors will take on Mogadore at 190 Sports Complex in Massillon on Thursday for the district title.

DIVISION V

Northeast 4

Columbiana 11, Tuslaw 8 — In a district semifinal, the top of the Clippers’ order did its job. Maryn Hepler went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored as the leadoff batter. Caitlynn Pleska hit her 17th home run with two RBIs and three runs scored, and Addison Brode also homered with two RBIs and a run scored. Pleska also earned the win after throwing three scoreless innings of relief. She allowed two hits and two walks. The Clippers will face LaBrae in the district championship today at Wellington Recreational Park in Wellington.

BASEBALL

Boardman 3, Austintown Fitch 2 (9 inn.) — In a continuation of a game that was called on April 9, the Spartans walked it off after only one inning of action on Tuesday. Boardman’s Grayson Eicher had two hits, including a triple, and two runs scored. Ivan Rudiak and Ryan Neifer each had a hit and an RBI, and Vince Butto doubled and scored. For Fitch, Mason Petridis had three hits, including a double, with an RBI. Frank Senediak singled and tripled with a run scored and an RBI, and Gavin Loomis singled and scored once. Carter Owens took the loss, allowing one unearned run on two hits in one-third of an inning. And Neifer earned the win with three shutout innings across the two days, allowing three hits and striking out five.

Crestview 8, Jackson-Milton 3 — In North Jackson, the Rebels fell behind early but scored seven runs in the top of the third inning to regain momentum. Crestview had things working in the batter’s box and on the bases, registering 10 hits and four stolen bases. Luke Julian led the Rebel charge with a 2-for-2 day, including a three-run double. Kyle Booth added two more hits, and Isaac Unkefer earned the win on the mound. Unkefer allowed two runs on five hits, striking out three and walking one in six innings pitched. Landon Workman went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Jackson-Milton. Jaiden Scott, Caden Ruby and Jaidyn Henry each drove in one run for the Blue Jays.

Bristol 20, Lordstown 0 (5 inn.) — In Lordstown, the Panthers did plenty of damage in the first two innings, quickly jumping out to a 19-0 lead. Croc Thorp went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and three runs scored, and Kaiden Kohler doubled with four RBIs and three runs scored as the duo led the Bristol bats. Keifer Swagger doubled and singled with two RBIs and three runs scored. Diesel Williams, Jonas Miller and Brock Pierce each had two RBIs. Laverene Miller pitched a one-hitter for the Panthers, allowing one walk and punching out eight in the complete game. Jacob Schneider had the lone hit for the Red Devils, but he also took the loss on the mound. He allowed seven runs — six earned — on two hits and four walks in one-third of an inning pitched.

Canfield 10, South Range 7 — In a battle of nearby programs, an eight-run third inning by the home Cardinals made the difference. Dylan Mancini doubled, scored once and drove in two for the Cardinals, Louie Zorella singled with a run scored and two RBIs, Zain Jadallah doubled and singled with an RBI and two runs scored and Tanner Stricko doubled with three runs scored. Anthony Groner, Jake Dovich and David Murphy each drove in an RBI. Sean Harrington picked up the win, allowing two runs on three walks and a hit in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Sean Updegraff took the loss after surrendering three runs — one earned — on three hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Brennen Klasovsky drove in three for the Raiders, while Gaven Nagy and Julian Tranovich each drove in one.

Cardinal Mooney 14, Springfield 4 (5 inn.) — At Bob Cene Park, the Cardinals scored multiple runs in four of the five innings. Ryan Reese led the way with a 3-for-3 effort, including a triple, with three RBIs and two runs scored as the leadoff hitter. Trent Litman had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored, Andrew Bushey singled and doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored, Ford Stacy singled twice with two RBIs, Taco Verroco singled and doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Vince Gentile had an RBI and scored twice. Alec Fusco, Daylin Barber, Plant and McAllister each had an RBI for the Tigers. Fusco took the loss, allowing seven runs on five hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Reese picked up the win after giving up one run on two hits and two walks, fanning seven in four innings pitched.

McDonald 11, Lowellville 1 (5 inn.) — In McDonald, freshman Quinn Schmidt homered and singled, driving in five RBIs and scoring twice for the Blue Devils. Brady Klockner doubled and singled with two RBIs and three runs scored, Nate Metzinger doubled with an RBI and two runs scored, and Anthony Larson scored three times. Jaxson Candel and Nick Larson both drove in a run as well. Chayse Hickox picked up the win after allowing one unearned run on two hits and seven walks, striking out five in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Nick Likens had the Rockets’ lone RBI in the top of the second, driving in Kasen Smith. Cody Nolfi, Liam Bartlett and Anthony Kacir each had hits for Lowellville. Tyler Tuscano was given the loss, allowing 10 runs — eight earned — on eight hits and seven walks in four innings of work.

Garrettsville Garfield 8, Brookfield 4 — In Garrettsville, a three-run bottom of the fifth gave the G-Men enough breathing room. Aidan Hill went 3-for-4, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored for the G-Men. Jack Neikirk added two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Jared Cardinal singled with an RBI and two runs scored. Garet Warnick picked up the win despite giving up three runs — two earned — on three hits and three walks. Warnick struck out six in 4 2/3 innings of relief. Pete O’Dell singled with an RBI for the Warriors, and Brayden Sangregorio walked twice and scored twice. Hunter Warrender was given the loss after allowing one run on one hit and a walk, striking out three in two innings of relief.

LaBrae 4, Southeast 1 — With LaBrae at home, the Vikings broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning in the win. Austin Rowe kept the Pirates in check to give his offense a chance to take the lead. Rowe pitched a complete game, allowing one run on five hits and a pair of free passes, striking out five. Landon Brunstetter did the most damage for LaBrae, going 3-for-3, including a triple, with two RBIs and a run scored. Lucas Glaser doubled with an RBI, Rowe helped his own cause with a run driven in, Ethan Magoulick doubled and scored and Colton Hall singled and scored.

Warren JFK 17, St. Thomas Aquinas 4 (6 inn.) — In Louisville, the Eagles were only up one run before scoring 12 in the top of the sixth inning. Andrew LaPolla got things going from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Dom Ryan did his part as well, doubling and singling with four RBIs and two runs scored. Lucas Morrison drove in two, Brennen Sanata scored three times after he was hit by a pitch four times. LaPolla also took home the win after allowing four runs — one earned — on four hits and a walk. He struck out six in the complete game.

Newton Falls 15, Grand Valley 9 — In Orwell, when the Tigers scored, they scored in bunches for their fifth straight win. Newton Falls tallied six runs in the first and four each in the third and fifth innings. Ethan Powell drove in four runs and scored twice for the Tigers. Trevor Ruscoe and Hunter Persin both singled twice with three RBIs and a run scored, Wyatt Wheeler singled twice with two RBIs and a run scored and Cameron Huff singled twice with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Zayne Shelton got the win, allowing nine runs — seven earned — on eight hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings. Payton Plizga took the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits in two innings pitched. Carter Turk doubled twice and singled with three RBIs and a run scored for the Mustangs, and Carl Krieg doubled and singled with an RBI and two runs scored. Plizga had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
