As one of the most well-known retailers in the US, Walmart is constantly looking for ways to improve.

At the same time, lots of chains are shutting down stores, so the pressure is on.

Major names in the game have announced expansion plans, from Trader Joe’s to Aldi, but Walmart isn’t far behind.

Yahoo reports that Walmart is remodeling 650 stores across 47 states, including Puerto Rico over the next 12 months.

Walmart US CEO John Furner boasted how this will create “tens of thousands of jobs supporting these projects.”

So this means that a fair few changes will be coming to Walmart to refine the customer experience.

A BETTER LAYOUT

The first one is a general improved layout to come to stores, with several areas that Walmart want to hit specially.

This will begin with a wider product selection, but it is not exactly known what this will grow to include.

Game changing technology is also coming to stores, again with very little detail as to what this means.

Walmart claims that customers that have gotten to test this out have loved it.

More information is expected soon.

GREATER ACCESSIBILITY

The fourth change is actually something more specific, and while may seem small, will make all the difference.

Walmart is planning to make its in-store signage bolder and more noticeable.

This will make it easier for everyone to move around the stores.

Walmart‘s pharmacies are also set to be transformed to include more spacious aisles and private checkout lanes.

Again, this change is aimed at making Walmart stores more accessible.

Change six comes in the form of a plan to broaden online pickup and delivery.

This is set to focus more on Walmart.com orders.

CONTINUED GROWTH

And lastly, Walmart is planning to build or convert over 150 stores through 2029.

So, not only is Walmart making changes at shelf level, it is expanding its footprint even more in the coming years.

Furner continued: “These new and remodeled stores will better enable us to meet and exceed customer expectations whether in a store, online at Walmart.com, or through one of our mobile apps.”

It has been confirmed that five states shoppers can expect to find remodeled stores in are New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

A total of 104 stores will be remodeled throughout those five states, and it’s coming within the next year.
