THE San Francisco 49ers have handed out the largest contract ever to a linebacker in another huge splash.
San Francisco has only just paid quarterback Brock Purdy a mega $265 million.

Fred Warner, 28, has agreed a three-year contract extension worth $63 million.
The deal includes $56 million guaranteed for the star defensive player.
And it makes Warner the highest-paid linebacker in football.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he also became the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL when he signed his last deal.
The 28-year-old had two years left on the five-year, $95 million contract he signed in 2021.
Warner has spent his entire pro career with the 49ers.
They drafted him in the third round in 2018.
He has been to four Pro Bowls, including in each of the last three seasons.
And Warner’s play has helped San Francisco reach two Super Bowls and two NFC Championship Games since 2019.
The team has been working hard to keep their stars together this summer.
They are coming off a disappointing 6-11 season which saw them finish fourth in the NFC West.
Two key offensive players had already agreed new contracts.
And Warner’s lucrative deal wraps up the financial negotiations with key stars.
Quarterback Purdy recently signed a five-year contract worth $265 million.

The 25-year-old was entering the final season of his rookie deal after being selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft.
Tight end George Kittle also agreed a new deal last month.
His four-year contract is worth $76.4 million with $40 million guaranteed.
San Francisco will begin their new season against division rivals the Seattle Seahawks.
The game takes place at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, on Sunday 7 September.
