SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Thousands of people took to the streets of San Francisco on Sunday for the annual Bay to Breakers race. A San Francisco tradition since 1912, Bay to Breakers is famous for the outlandish costumers -- or lack of -- worn by race participants.

About 20,000 participants attended this year's race, which was the 114th installment of Bay to Breakers. The race is the oldest consecutively run annual footrace in the world.

Booming fireworks rattle San Francisco

With a starting point near the San Francisco Bay, a few blocks from The Embarcadero, the 12K race runs west through the city and finishes at the Great Highway where breakers crash onto the Pacific Coast's Ocean Beach.

Participants typically dress with amazing costumes during the event. This year's race was no exception, with runners sporting creative, wild and crazy costumes all along the 12K course.
