Phoenix Mercury guard Kahleah Copper underwent successful surgery on her left knee and will miss the first four to six weeks of the WNBA season, the team announced Saturday.
In addition to Copper’s injury, the Mercury also announced forward Natasha Mack is out two to three weeks with a lower back injury.
Copper is coming off a 2024 season where she averaged 21.1 points (on 43.5% shooting), 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 31.4% from three-point range and was named an All-Star for the fourth straight season.

Copper’s 21.1 points per game was the third-best in the WNBA, behind only Las Vegas Aces’ A’Ja Wilson (26.9) and Dallas Wings’ Arike Ogunbowale (22.2).
Copper was also a member of the 2024 U.S. Olympics women’s basketball team, along with former Mercury teammates Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner, that went on to win the gold medal during the tournament.
Following the season, Copper was named a member of the All-WNBA Second Team.
Her absence will put more on the plates of All-Stars Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas. Both are entering their first seasons with Phoenix after they were acquired in offseason trades.
Mack was a key reserve for the Mercury last season, starting 11 games when Griner missed time. She averaged 3.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Her 40 games played in 2024 came after she had seen action in just four games over the three seasons before.
The news comes ahead of the Mercury’s season opener against the Seattle Storm at PHX Arena on Saturday. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
