Burglary suspect facing new charges after unrelated search warrant ...Middle East

(KRON) – A man suspected of committing multiple burglaries is facing assault with a deadly weapon charges after an unrelated search warrant, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. 

Around 1:55 a.m. on Feb. 24, authorities responded to a business in the 500 block of Lawrence Expressway due to a glass break alarm. Arriving officers found that multiple nearby businesses had been burglarized. 

SDPS later found a suspect, and he fled on foot. Police said during the pursuit, they heard gunshot noises. The suspect was apprehended and identified as 28-year-old Mountain View resident, Walter Chicas. Police did not find any firearms on Chicas. He was booked into a local jail on several counts of burglary and other charges.

On May 7, the Mountain View Police Department and the Palo Alto Police Department searched Chicas’s residence for an unrelated crime. A handgun that was linked to a Sunnyvale case was discovered in the search. The departments informed SDPS of the discovery. 

Chicas has now been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and additional weapons violations.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety thanked the nearby agencies. The department said on its social media, “This case highlights the strong working relationships between Sunnyvale DPS, Palo Alto PD, and Mountain View PD, whose ongoing collaboration and information-sharing were critical in advancing the investigation across jurisdictions.”
