It’s the FA Cup final this afternoon, and for Crystal Palace, it is an incredible opportunity.

The Eagles must get past Manchester City to lift one of the most prestigious prizes in world football.

Oliver Glasner has taken the FA Cup seriously from the start, and he is looking to add it to his trophy cabinet after sealing the Europa League a few years ago with Eintracht Frankfurt.

If Palace do overcome Pep Guardiola‘s men, they will end an incredibly long trophy drought for the club.

When was the last time Crystal Palace won a trophy?

Well, since being founded in 1905, the Eagles have never won a major trophy.

They have been crowned second division champions twice and third division champions as well.

But in terms of the top-flight, FA Cup and League Cup, the South London club have a bare trophy cabinet.

The last time they won the old First Division was in 1994, so it is over 30 years since Palace won any sort of silverware.

They also won the Second Division in the 1970s and their only other lower league win was in the 1920s.

So, this is a club that has been starved of success for its entire existence.

But despite the lengthy trophy drought, Glasner wants there to be no pressure on his players.

He said: “I feel it’s important not to do anything special or specific just because it’s a big game.

“The message will be to stick to our strengths, stick to the way we want to play and stick to what has worked.

“Our approach was successful in the win against Fulham, and again against Aston Villa, so we don’t change anything.

“What is clear is that we should feel no burden.

“Pressure comes when you are trying to avoid relegation, when you are playing for your future, the future of the football club and the club’s employees.

“But playing in a Cup Final means that you can achieve something incredible.

“This is what we are all playing for, this is the childhood dream! When these players were kids, I’m sure they all watched the Cup Finals and dreamed of one day being involved in one. Now, everyone has the chance to fulfil that childhood dream.”
