Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed that there will be no security or stability in the region without a solution to the Palestinian issue, calling for a return to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza signed in January.
“We are approaching 70 days without a single truck carrying food or medical aid entering, and this is an issue that cannot be ignored,” he added.
Abdelatty’s remarks came during a joint press conference held with his Iraqi and Jordanian counterparts following a round of talks in Baghdad.
He affirmed Egypt’s continued efforts to reach an agreement that guarantees the release of all hostages, halts the bloodshed against innocent Palestinian civilians, and ensures the entry of aid.
“The international community’s silence on this situation is shameful,” he said, and noted that starvation is being used as a weapon against the Palestinian people.
Abdelatty noted that the meeting between the three ministers discussed the complete rejection of the plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza Strip, the importance of stabilizing the Palestinian people on their land, and the need for a ceasefire as soon as possible so that the reconstruction process can begin in accordance with the Arab-Islamic plan.
Meeting in Baghdad
The Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Abdelatty, Iraq, Fuad Hussein, and Jordan, Ayman al-Safadi, participated in a tripartite meeting as part of the trilateral cooperation mechanism between all three countries.
A summit between the leaders of the three countries is scheduled to be held on Saturday on the sidelines of the Arab Summit in Baghdad.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister explained that the trilateral cooperation mechanism reflects the political leadership of the three countries to advance cooperation for the benefit of the Arab peoples and the peoples of the three countries.
He added that there are specific ideas for cooperation between the three countries, pointing to discussions on the sectors of agriculture, energy, communications, electrical interconnection, land and sea transport, and logistics zones.
