A Town Hall featuring several experts on how to keep yourself, your property and your community safe from wildfires is being held this Monday at Mendocino College.
The event is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Little Theater, Room 710 in the Lowery Student Center, at Mendocino College, located on Hensley Creek Road, and is free and open to the public.
Organizers of the event describe it as offering “the latest science-based developments on home protection, fire insurance and community action,” and that attendees will learn how to “equip yourself with the tools to empower your community, fostering a safer and more resilient environment in the face of fire risks.”
Speakers include:
Brandon Gunn, chief of the Mendocino Unit of Cal Fire, who will describe “what is happening in our county and what does the future look like?” Scott Cratty, executive director of the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council, who will offer “tools and tips for activating community action and (provide) Fire Safe Council updates. Mike Jones, U.C. Cooperative Extension Forest Advisor, who will present “Fighting Fire With Fire, A Tool For Stewardship: How to use prescribed fire for a tool, and how it is being used.” Yana Valachovic, U.C. Cooperative Extension County Director and Forest Advisor, who will discuss “what current science can teach us about protecting our homes from wildfire, learnings from the recent LA area fires, and current information about changes to state regulations and insurance requirements.”Admission is free, but people who plan to attend are asked to register beforehand here
