Jordan Banjo, member of dance group Diversity, is set for a huge Misfits Boxing debut this weekend.

The 32-year-old shot to fame as part of street dance group Diversity who formed in 2007.

Banjo’s fight will also attract the attention of Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson

Alongside brother Ashley, the group won Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, scooping a £100,000 prize where they beat heavy favourite Susan Boyle.

The group to this day are hugely popular and remain in the public eye.

And as a result, Banjo has pursued a new opportunity in another realm, the squared circle.

He will make his debut under the bright lights of influencer promotion Misfits Boxing this weekend.

It will be a bumper bill in Derby, with Banjo taking on former Love Island star Wil Anderson.

And he came into the studio on talkSPORT’s Hawksbee & Jacobs to discuss how his fight with Anderson materialised.

“I met him at a Misfits event, we became Instagram friends,” he said.

“But then Misfits rang and they said, ‘you are fighting Wil Anderson’.

“Then I suddenly flicked on interviews, and he’s saying, ‘I’m going to knock his teeth out’.

“I know everyone has to sell the fight and things, he’s a lovely guy. I reckon it’s going to be a really good fight though.”

Anderson is the brother of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who has been a revelation for the Reds’ this season.

It is yet another compelling storyline to an intriguing battle in the ring.

And Banjo has admitted he can’t quite believe how things have panned out.

“I saw a lot of people at first, there reaction was why is the guy from Diversity fighting Elliot Anderson’s brother?,” he continued.

“I can’t even argue with that, it does seem a bit random.

“A win is a win, I will take it however it comes. We are fighting in four, three minute rounds.”

Banjo is not entirely inexperienced, having had a family background in boxing.

His father Funso Banjo had 18 professional bouts, and won a Southern Area title in 1984.

He even fought the son of Joe Frazier, Marvis, in his most high-profile bout.

And ultimately Banjo believes, despite his dad not being too impressed, that is what inspired him to step in the ring.

He concluded: “Yeah he fought for the British title. He was a talented fighter but got disillusioned with the business side of the sport.

“But yeah I am going to try my best to follow in his footsteps at a different level of course.

“He never let me in the gym as a kid. I wanted to be in the gym, but he didn’t want me or Ashley to fight.

“I’ve been super fortunate and blessed in life and been really successful in dancing.

“But my dad is asking ‘why do you want to do this?’ He will be at the fight though.”
