Whether through run, pass or catch, the top returning offensive statistical leaders are set to light up the scoreboard again in the 2025 FCS football season.
North Dakota State’s Bryce Lance led FCS college football in touchdown receptions while the Bison won the 2024 national championship.
But consider, he entered last season with one career reception over his first two seasons on the field – yes, one.
He landed an opportunity to play last season, and sometimes that’s all that’s necessary for a player’s production to take off.
Similarly last year, quarterback Sam Vidlak’s transfer to Stephen F. Austin made quite the difference for him; quarterback Adam Urena introduced himself as a TD maker as Mercyhurst moved into the FCS; and wide receiver Nate Garnett made a splash at Morehead State after a transfer from the Division II level.
Quite simply, despite the fear that FCS college football is losing all of the best players to FBS transfers, players with new opportunities will emerge alongside the returning standouts this season.
Led by Lance, perhaps the leading FCS prospect for next year’s NFL Draft, here are top returning offensive statistical leaders in the 2025 FCS season. Plenty will play for the top FCS teams,
Passing
Monmouth’s Derek Robertson is the only returning 3,000-yard passer in an FCS season, and he nearly reached 4,000 last year (3,937) while leading the FCS in passing yards per game (328.1) and total offensive yards per game (325.3 due to minus-34 rushing yards) and matching the national high with eight games of 300+ passing yards. His attempts (435) and completions (285) also lead returnees, and he shares the high in touchdown passes (31) with Mercyhurst left-hander Adam Urena.
The overall FCS leader in completion percentage (74.3) returns, but Kekoa Visperas has transferred from Eastern Washington to Tennessee Tech. South Dakota’s Aidan Bouman is the leading returnee in yards per attempt (9.48), while Tarleton’s Victor Gabalis tops in yards per completion (14.94).
Stephen F. Austin’s Sam Vidlak is the top returnee in pass efficiency rating (177.3) as well as points responsible per game (18.0).
Rushing
Like Robertson in passing, CAA Football has a dominating rusher with Stony Brook’s Roland Dempster, the FCS’ top returnee in yards (1,332) and touchdown runs (18). That’s also helped him to being No. 1 among returnees in all-purpose yards per game (138.9).
When it comes to gamebreakers, South Dakota’s Charles Pierre is the top returning qualifier in yards per carry (7.4), while Davidson’s Mari Adams tops returnees in rushing yards per game (111.9). Adams joins Dempster with the most 100-yard games (seven).
Receiving
FCS national champion North Dakota State brings back Bryce Lance, who was dominant in the postseason while surging to the national high in touchdown receptions (17).
Jamar Curtis has transferred from Lafayette to Sacramento State for the 2025 season.Colgate’s Treyvhon Saunders had the most receptions (88) among FCS returnees. Cornell’s Samuel Musungu was better than Saunders in receptions per game (8.3), and he’s also the top returnee in receiving yards per game (96.0).
Austin Peay addition Nate Garnett is No. 1 among returning players in yards per catch after he posted a 22.5 average in his only season at Morehead State. UIW’s Jalen Walthall had six games of 100+ receiving yards, which ranks No. 1 among returnees.
